How does the 2026 World Cup bracket work?
For the first time ever, the World Cup features 48 teams split across 12 groups. Once the group stage ends, the top two finishers from each group — plus the 8 best third-place teams — advance to the knockout stage with 32 teams total. The full path to the championship:
- Round of 32: 32 teams.
- Round of 16: 16 teams.
- Quarterfinals: 8 teams.
- Semifinals: 4 teams.
- Third Place Match & Final.
Our bracket follows this exact structure, with blank spaces to fill in team names and scores as the tournament progresses.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the bracket include the group stage?
No — this bracket covers the knockout stage only, starting from the Round of 32 through the Final. If you need the full group stage schedule, you can download it for free in our 2026 World Cup Match Schedule article.
Can I use this for an office pool or bracket challenge?
Absolutely — it's perfect for that. Since there are no dates or times printed on it, everyone can fill in their own predictions before the knockout stage begins. Print one copy per player, pick your winners round by round, and see who gets the most right. You can also check out our World Cup 2026 Office Pool Score Sheet for a dedicated scorecard to track points across your group.
When are the Round of 32 matchups announced?
The exact matchups are set once the group stage is complete and the top two teams from each group — plus the 8 best third-place finishers — are confirmed. FIFA then releases the official bracket with all 16 first-round matchups. That's when you can fill in your Round of 32 slots.
How many teams are in the 2026 World Cup knockout stage?
32 teams enter the knockout stage at the Round of 32. That's double the previous format, where the knockout stage started with 16 teams in the Round of 16. It's the biggest change in the expanded 48-team tournament.
Is it really free? Do I need to create an account?
Yes, 100% free and no sign-up required. Click the download link and the PDF saves instantly. The Canva template is also free — a free Canva account is all you need to edit and download it.
What paper size is the PDF designed for?
The bracket is optimized for standard US Letter (8.5" × 11") paper, which fits any home or office printer in the United States.
